Ice Exploration

During our first week in nursery when it was icy and snowy outside, the children were very interested in ice and how it is made and what happens to it. So we decided to make some ice to explore in nursery. We put some small dinosaurs inside and left the children to explore what had happened and what was going to happen. We had lots of good discussions. Children estimated how many dinosaurs were trapped in the ice (they thought 10). They said things like "It might melt." "It's melted". "The sun would be great at melting it". "It's cold, so icy". "When it's melted we can catch the dinosaurs". "The waters coming from the ice". "It came from the freezer". What fantastic investigating!
