We are delighted to once again be able to offer all of the children in Y5 this year a fantastic opportunity to visit London, and participate in the Science Museum’s special programme “Science Night”, this year on Friday 19th to Saturday 20th June 2026.
We are currently driving back from the National Space Centre with nearly 60 very exhausted children. A wonderful day was had by all. We took part in a workshop to learn all about the phases of the moon and to discover why we have night and day. The highlight was an amazing iMax tour of the night sky! Enjoy the pictures of our day.
In Science, we have begun learning all about Space. We found out about the size of the different planets and learnt about the different lengths of orbits and how this affects how long a year is on these planets. We also had our first piece of space home learning from Kurt!
In D&T, we have continued work on creating our cars, carefully measuring (measure twice, cut once!) out the chassis and axles and then using junior hacksaws to cut our wood.
Well done to all the children who received their Autumn bronze reading badge for recording 40 reads!
In art this half-term, we have been learning about typography.
On 20th January 2026, Y5 will be visiting the National Space Centre!

We have already had quite a week in Year 5! Over the last two days we have learnt in History all about Boudica, Queen of the Iceni people, and her battle against the Romans, finished sewing our Roman 'bulla' bags and created story maps in Writing about the poem, the Highwayman.
We also have the last of our pet pictures and a quick reminder, it is spooky halloween dress up on Friday!
