VE Celebration Week

What a wonderful but busy week!

It may have only been a four-day week but we have definitely packed it in!

VE Day Celebrations:

In preparation for Thursday’s Street Party event, each year group did some baking. In Y4, we made jam tarts! We even made our own pastry! We had great fun working in groups to rub together the butter and plain flour, and the caster sugar. After that, we learnt an amazing skill of separating an egg so we could use the egg and added that in, along with vanilla essence. After making a ball of dough, we rolled the pastry out and filled our cut shapes with jam, and baked! We loved eating them at our Street Party!

Here is the recipe, if you’d like to use it (it makes 12 tarts), and the oven needs to be on 180 degrees or gas mark 6. Bake for approximately 15 minutes:

Ingredients

175g plain flour, plus extra for dusting

1 tbsp caster sugar

85g fridge-cold butter, cubed

1 medium free-range egg yolk

1 tsp vanilla extract

125g raspberry, strawberry, blackcurrant or apricot jam

Swimming:

This week was our final water safety week. We recapped how to keep safe in water if we fell in, and what the differences between wild water and a swimming pool were. We remembered that we need to stay calm, float on our backs and try and keep our hair dry. We were also taught to conserve energy and shout for help and wave periodically. We also had another go at the help position (arms crossed and hands tucked into our armpits, legs tight together and knees bent). Following this, we practised rescuing someone from the water and what to do when that happens. See if your child can tell you what the steps are!

Y4GH:

Star of the Week is for Kareem. He has done some fantastic independent writing this week and took so much care with his handwriting – we are really proud of him!

Jacob is our recipient for the ‘Learn Together’ postcard. During our baking session, Jacob worked really well with his group and took turns to complete all the steps!

Y4MB

The Learning Principle (Feel Proud) postcard was awarded to Brogan. She has worked sop hard to get to school on time; she is working hard and producing brilliant learning.
