02.10.26 Y6 Learning

What another amazing week – this half term is just flying by!

Writing

This week, we have focused our attention on describing images of a city scene (London). Our skills of incorporating fronted adverbials, expanded noun phrases and relative clauses have really been tested! Next week we will put those skills to good use by applying these to a scene of Sheffield.

Music

We have started having whole year group music lessons and they have been really fun! Last week, we made and performed our own ‘Say the Word on the Beat’. It involved using rhyming words with one syllable (to represent crochets – 4 in a bar), and then two syllable rhyming words (to represent quavers, 8 half beats in a bar). This week, we listened to two pieces of music: Uptown Funk and baroque music by Pachelbel and clapped the emphasised beats. We then used Mrs Heaver as a metronome to time the two classes alternating a clapping beat. Eventually we worked in groups and planned and performed 4 bars of body percussion. It was great fun!

Parents Evening

We cannot wait to see you all in the parent meetings you’ve booked. We have so many amazing things to tell you about your child’s start to the year; as well as talking through their next steps for the rest of the year. Please remember there is an opportunity to buy a one-of-a-kind decoupage frame, made by your child, and their amazing portrait inside it. These will be for sale for £3.50 (with the option to order more of both as Christmas presents!)

Y6GH

There are two postcard recipients this week, who are both being given ‘Learn Together’. Bassma and Alyssiah are such good learning partners. They support and challenge each other in a really good way and we love to observe it! Our Star of the Week for next week is Calia! She has made an excellent start to Y6 :)

Y6 PE Star of the Week

This week’s PE Star is from Y6GH. It goes to Summer for excellent batting skills in our rounders lesson.

Y6KH

This week’s postcard goes to Oliver Barton for solving problems. He puts the same effort into all of his learning and asks relevant questions when he is not sure – well done! Our Star of the Week is Lily-Rose who has made the most excellent start to Y6. She is funny and enthusiastic and always full of questions.

CLIC

Some of our CLIC scores are a bit low as it is the first week we have done the Y6 test – so it was a little tricky in places. There were also two questions we haven’t even taught yet!
