We have had the most sensational week! The children’s learning has been exceptional – from tricky maths to descriptive diary entries as an evacuee and finishing with detailed reflections of our WW2 day!
WW2 Day
We’re not sure who enjoyed this more, the adults or the children?! An excuse to dress up, play in role and do such a range of activities is always a joy! The year 6s did themselves proud and threw themselves fully into the experiences. They definitely Dug for Victory and transformed the planting bed to ensure the broad beans had the best chance to grow. They weighed out the week’s rations for their family; and even got to taste genuine WW2 recipes in the afternoon. They were put to work as Home Guards, demonstrated their sewing skills and became inference detectives! We were worn out by the end of the day but it was totally worth it! I am awarding the postcard this week to Charlie. He completely deserves the Enjoy Challenge postcard. He has approached his wand buddy and asked her to help him with his handwriting as he desperately wants Mr Read’s Stamp of Approval – go Charlie! Our Star of the Week is Veda. She works super hard all of the time and her smile is infectious!
Y6 PE Star of the Week
This week’s PE Star is from Y6GH. It is for Layla. She showed excellent skill using 'the dig' in volleyball but also lots of patience when things with her team took a long time and felt frustrating.

Our postcard, ‘Careful Choices’ this week goes to Darcie – an easy choice as she shows the same level of engagement in every lesson. She is a good role model for other children. Her writing has particularly impressed us with her choice of vocabulary and she was fully immersed in our World War II Day. Our Star of the Week is Oba. He has settled well in Y6 and is working hard.
