22.05.26 Learning
Another week has flown by! We are all ready for a rest over half term, but only so we are ready and raring to go again in June!
Geography
We have been trying to answer questions about Shirecliffe, like what sort of an area is it (village, city, suburb etc) and what our local city is. In order to investigate this, we went on a local area walk and completed building surveys and traffic link surveys. We concluded that Shirecliffe is a suburb: it is mainly a residential area and has transport links (roads, buses, public footpaths) to the city centre to allow for commuting.
Swimming
Following two weeks on water safety, the children are all back in the pool and working really hard on their swimming skills. The swimming teachers were doing assessment of how far the children can swim on their fronts or backs too. After half term, the depth of the pool is being lowered slightly so they can really show us what they are made of!
Writing
After half term, we are creating narratives with description of characters and setting. So we can build up to this we have been looking at settings, such as Mount Rushmore and Willy Wonka’s chocolate room, to identify nouns, adjectives, prepositions and personification. We have then combined these to write descriptive phrases and paragraphs.
Y4GH
The ‘Be Positive’ postcard is being awarded this week. It is for Summer – this is her second postcard of the year and well deserved. Her positive attitude is infectious in the classroom with her peers, but also in her learning. She has worked incredibly hard and is making good progress.
Over half the class have already reached the 40 reads target for summer term too – we are so proud of how dedicated they are. Well done Amani, Ruqayyah, Aahil, Ezmae, Blake, Levi, Malik, Matin, Dhiyara, Rayaan, Rakaan, Summer, Hakimah, Kairo, Odain, Dolly, Parker and Ava. Most of the rest of the class are also on track, with 20 or more reads – what a great job Teegan, Alisa, Tayyib, Sufyan, Tiwa, Leela and Poppy!

Our PE star of the week is from Y4GH. The star is for Tiwa, she really gave it her all in swimming when attempting to swim a length with no flotation devices; for the very first time!
