23rd January
A wet but wonderful week.
One more week of January left to go – it has flown by!
Science
Electricity is an amazing science unit – it is practical every week and the children learn the skills so quickly. Every child has had the opportunity to create a complete circuit, that will light a bulb. This week, we looked at diagrams of circuits and predicted whether the circuit would work or not and how we know. We then worked together to test the circuits and see if our predictions were correct – we were pretty accurate! We also were introduced to motors and buzzers. Do you know all the scientific symbols for them?
Design and Technology
Our design brief for D&T is for the children to design, make and evaluate a torch. After analysing existing products and coming up with design criteria, this week the children used their scientific knowledge to explore the effect a switch can have on a circuit. We all had previously decided that a torch needs to have a switch so the bulb can be turned off, in order to preserve energy. This meant more time creating circuits, and looking at the different switches we could use:
- slide switch
- toggle switch
- rocker switch; and
- push-to-make switch
We discussed the pros and cons of each, so that next week when they design their own torch, they can make an informed decision on which switch is best.
Y4GH
We have two postcard winners this week for ‘Learn Together’. Matin and Rakaan were excellent partners to two other children in our science lesson. They challenged and supported and all were able to create circuits, and prove their predictions.
Y4 PE Star of the Week:
Our PE star of the week is from Y4GH. Jack worked really well in a confined space. He followed all instructions and worked well.
Y4MB
Our postcard went to Alisha for ‘Value Being Special’. She helped our new child by guiding him through the details of the day and helped him with his learning.
CLIC:
Y4MB: Zainab, Harrison, Tassie and Darcey scored their best of this half term. Unfortunately, no one scored 12/12.
Y4GH: Kairo was able to score 12/12 this week! Well done dude! Parker and Ava scored their best for this half term.
Beat That:
Y4MB: Harriett, Ida, Zainab, Darcie, Harrison, Grace, and Alisha all scored their highest score for this half term. Evelina (54) and Hamza (52) smashed the 42 barrier. Well done to all.
Y4GH: Matin, Hakimah and Jack scored their highest score for this half term. Rayaan scored the magical 42.
Spelling:
Y4MB: Luther, Hamza, Noor, Harrison, Evelina, Shatw, Grace, Maryam, Darcey, Junior, Harry and Advik all scored 10/10. Well done! These children: Tassie, Joey, Darcie and Ida all beat their best for this half term.
Y4GH: Ruqayyah, Aahill, Jameel, Blake, Riley, Levi, Alisha, Tayyib, Malik, Matin, Rakaan, Sufyan, Hakimah, Kairo, Jack, Dolly, Ellicia, Poppy and Ava all achieved the magical 10/10. Teegan and Esmae scored their best this half term.
