A great start to the new year.
Happy New Year! It has been so good having the children back to school. They have had an amazing start, despite the weather trying to turn us to icicles!
Geography
Mrs Heaver is very excited this term, as we have started our Volcanoes and Earthquakes unit. Learning about physical geography is one of her favourite things, especially physical processes. We began our unit with singing along to the continent’s song, to remind us. We also learnt about and labelled the structure of the Earth. Did you know the inner core is estimated to be 5400Oc?! So hot that it is not even possible to get a more accurate reading of the liquid rock. Understanding the earth’s structure will enable us to further understand how volcanoes are formed.
Science
The first science component in our electricity unit allowed to list as many appliances that run on electricity as we can. They knew a lot! From fridges, to games consoles, iPads to fans. We learnt that electricity is an energy stored in generators. It can be created by renewable energy from solar and wind power, or made from fossil fuels (oil, coal and gas). In our next component we will be thinking about circuits and how to create a simple one.
Design and Technology
We don’t have an art unit this term, so we have started our design and technology unit straight away. Our design brief is to design, make and evaluate a torch for the Y4s to take to Thornbridge and use them out and about night. We recapped what a shell structure is and analysed existing products to allow us to write our own design criteria.
Y4GH
Our postcard recipient this week is for Sufyan. Since coming back from the Christmas break he has been so focussed on his learning, ensuring he avoids distractions. He definitely deserves ‘Make Careful Choices’.
Y4 PE Star of the Week:
Our PE star of the week is from Y4GH this week. It was Alisha for all round good effort.
Y4MB
Our postcard went to Darcie H for ‘Feel Proud’. She should be so proud of the effort she put in and the massive smile she had all week.
We did our CLIC, Beat That and Spelling but because so many children were off, we haven’t put the scores on and we will be doing the same test again next week.
